SUMMARY
  • Ingwe is currently on an eight-match unbeaten run, winning five consecutive games in the process with the most recent win coming against Murang’a Seal.
  • Leopards now sit in position 8 on 31 points, ten above the relegation places and 16 behind leaders and perennial rivals Gor Mahia.

12-time Kenya Premier League champions AFC Leopards had an awful start to the 2023/2024 season as they became a laughingstock after managing only one win in their opening 14 matches (D8 L5).

The poor run resulted in the sacking of coach Tom Juma with the club’s management replacing him with a familiar name in Tomas Trucha who returned to the club after a previous short stint.

Although Trucha’s appointment did not yield positive results immediately, he has managed to live up to the expectations that AFC Leopards stakeholders had on him.

The man, who hails from Czech Republic, has transformed the club which was at risk of being relegated a few weeks ago.

Ingwe is currently on an eight-match unbeaten run, winning five consecutive games in the process with the most recent win coming against Murang’a Seal.

According to Trucha, Ingwe’s excellent form since mid-December has been brought about by a myriad of factors that seem to be now working in favour of the club.

“Firstly, I don’t know, you have to ask the players. Secondly, Tom Juma did not have time to prepare the team because there were a lot of new signings before the league.

Maybe I have had more time. We went to the camp in Mumias, we had a FIFA break, so I tried to make players comfortable in what we are doing, how we are playing and they started to understand. So, it is about the players,” he commented.

When asked whether he sees his side continuing with the momentum, the 52-year-old noted that it is very possible.

“We the help of God and the performance of players, we can make it,” the head coach noted.

AFC Leopards have now gone for eight matches without tasting defeat, including a run that consisted of five straight wins.
