SportPesa unveil 16.5 million sponsorship for 2024 National 7s Circuit

Leading online gaming firm SportPesa once again reaffirmed its commitment to uplifting the sporting ecosystem in the country after announcing its partnership with the Kenya Rugby Union for the 2024 National Sevens Circuit.

In the unveiling ceremony that took place at the RFUEA Grounds on Monday morning, SportPesa announced a 16.5 million sponsorship package that will see the circuit being officially referred to as the SportPesa 7s for the second year running following a largely successful 2023 edition.

This year’s edition, set to kick off on 27 July (Christie 7s), sees an increase in sponsorship from 15 million in 2023 to the current 16.5 million.

The 2024 SportPesa 7s circuit will take place in five cities across the country over a span of two months.

Kenya Harlequin will host the opening tournament – Christie 7s – on 27/28 July before action moves to Kakamega on 3/4 August for the KRU 7s to be hosted by Western affiliated clubs spearheaded by Kabras Sugar.

There will be a one-week break before the circuit makes a stop in Kisumu for the Dala 7s set to take place from 17-18 August before Mwamba host the Kabeberi 7s in Nairobi from 24-25 August.

There will be another one-week break before the last two outings set for Mombasa (Driftwood 7s - 7/8 September) and Nakuru (Prinsloo 7s - 14/15 September).

A total prize pot of 2.2 million will be spread across the six legs with the top performing teams being rewarded at the end of each tournament.

The top three in the men’s Division 1 will receive Ksh. 100,000, Ksh. 50,000 and Ksh. 25,000 respectively while the Division 2 men’s winner will pocket Ksh. 50,000.

In the three tournaments that will host a women’s event, the winner and runner-up of those legs will receive Ksh 70,000 and Ksh 30,000 respectively.

Each of the six hosting clubs will also get 1 million to aid in organization of their tournaments.
