Sizzling Omanyala breaks national record again at Paris Indoor Meet

Kenya’s sprinting ace Ferdinand Omanyala dropped another statement performance on Sunday when he broke the 60m national record barely ten days after he had smashed the existing record.

Omanyala clocked 6.51s to win the Meeting Indoor de Paris as he lowered the national record from the 6.52s he managed last Saturday at the Elite Indoor Track Miramas Meeting.

The new time also saw the African record holder setting a meeting record in the event as he also managed a new personal best with Liberia’s Emmanuel Matadi and Great Britain’s Jeremiah Azu finishing in second and third after clocking 6.57s and 6.59s respectively.

“Two great competition weekends. Back-to-back National Records and Meet records. Appreciate all the great wishes and messages for Ferdinand Omanyala and team, we take a small break then start building again for the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24,” Omanyala’s coach Geoffrey Kimani posted after the athlete’s successful title defense.

Following the two races, Omanyala is expected to travel to Glasgow, Scotland for the eagerly anticipated World Indoor Games that will run between March 1 and March 3.

Besides the individual races, the athlete, who changed his coach late last year is expected to represent Kenya in the upcoming 2024 World Athletics relays championship which will take place in Nassau, Bahamas in May.

Omanyala recently stated that he will do his best to help Kenya post good results in the event which will be used as a qualifier for the Paris Olympic Games.

The Friends School Kamusinga alumnus has so far taken part in four competitions after gracing a couple of events organized by the Athletics Kenya including thr third track and field meet, where he gauged his speed in the 200m race.

He had earlier attended another race which was staged at the Ulinzi Sports Complex and took part in the 400m race to test his endurance.
