Omanyala reveals first international stops in busy 2024 calendar

Africa's fastest man Ferdinand Omurwa Omanyala has revealed his plans for the next one month as he gears up for the congested 2024 season.

The 100m African record holder graced a couple of events organised by the Athletics Kenya including last weekend's third track and field meet, where he gauged his speed in the 200m race.

He had earlier attended another race which was staged at the Ulinzi Sports Complex and took part in the 400m race.

After weeks of training and hard work, Omanyala is now ready to take on some of the best short-distance runners in the world.

The National Police Service (NPS) athlete confirmed the races that he will take part in between February and March on Tuesday, January 30.

"Seasons come and go but the memories we create will always last forever. And with that, the 2024 season is here with us. Here is my indoor calendar," part of the statement from the 28-year-old read.

Omanyala, who had an excellent campaign last season, is set to kick off his 2024 season at the Miramas Indoor Meet scheduled to take place in France on February 2.

In the 2023 edition, the former rugby player turned sprinter, clocked 6.60 seconds to finish in second place behind Ivory Coast’s Arthur Cisse who timed 6.57s in the 60-meter dash.

The powerful runner is then expected to feature at the Meeting Indoor de Paris less than two weeks later on February 11 where he is expected to defend the title he won in 2023 after clocking 6.56s.

At the beginning of March, Omanyala will travel to Glasgow, Scotland for the eagerly anticipated World Indoor Games that will run between March 1 and March 3.

Besides the individual races, the athlete, who changed his coach late last year is expected to represent Kenya in the upcoming 2024 World Athletics relays championship which will take place in Nassau, Bahamas in May.

Omanyala recently stated that he will do his best to help Kenya post good results in the event which will be used as a qualifier for the Paris Olympic Games.
