Omanyala confirmed for top French race in 2024

The race will take place in February in Miramas, France.

Kenya’s 100m sensation Ferdinand Omurwa Omanyala is expected to compete at the 2024 Meeting Miramas Metropole in France. 

This is after confirmation was made on Friday night, December 8 by the organizers of the top athletic event.

“Welcome back Ferdinand! The sprinter finalist at the world championships and graduate from the Athletic Club Miramas will be present at the meeting. Meeting February 2 at Miramas Metropole Stadium to encourage the Kenyan,” the statement from the race organizers read.

Omanyala is expected to use the races that will be held early next year to prepare for the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games which is slated for Paris, France from Friday, July 26 to Sunday, August 11. 

The 27-year-old will be seeking to start from where he left off and perhaps go one better by winning his maiden Olympic Games medal.

Omanyala had an impressive 2023 campaign, producing excellent performances at both the international and individual levels.

Some of his wins in the year which has been congested with athletic events include bagging the Commonwealth title before clinching the Kip Keino Classic and Monaco Diamond League titles.

He also made it to the final of the World Athletics Championships which was held in Budapest, Hungary becoming the first Kenyan to ever make it to the finals of the event. 

The father of two has a personal best of 9.77 which is the current African record and the ninth fastest time in the history of the 100m discipline.

He set the record in front of home fans in September 2021 during the Kip Keino Classic which was staged at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani.

Omanyala will begin the 2024 calendar with a number of huge changes. The Friends School Kamusinga alumni recently changed his coach and has landed a couple of ambassadorial roles thanks to his performances on the track.
