Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga proved to be instrumental for his Al Duhail side once again as he scored two crucial goals on Thursday night to help his team to a remarkable 3-2 comeback victory over Al Rayyan in a Qatar Stars League match played at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha.

With his side trailing 0-2 by the half time break, Olunga scored two goals in the last eight minutes of regulation time to rescue his side from the jaws of defeat.

This was after 27-year-old Qatar international Almoez Ali had pulled one back for Al Duhail on the stroke of the hour mark with a goal that gave the reigning champions a lifeline in the encounter.

In the clash, Duhail, who are currently under the leadership of former PSG boss Christoph Galtier, got off to a poor start as Roger Guedes sneaked in behind their defense before opening the scoring for Rayyan in the 15th minute.

Just before the half time break, the Brazilian international extended his side’s lead after a clever piece of play allowed him to fire past Salah Zakaria in the Duhail goal for his brace.

In the second half, Rayyan allowed Duhail an easy way back in when the referee awarded Duhail a penalty kick for Thiago Mendes’ foul committed in the area. Team captain Ali stepped up for the kick and sent the keeper the wrong way to halve the deficit for his side.

With the game headed towards its business end, a switched on Olunga pounced on Sultan Al Brake’s low cross in the area that he diverted into the back of the net to restore parity in the game.

The Kenyan international would wrap up his brace just eight minutes later when he stayed alive once again as he pounced on a poor clearance from Rayyan before squeezing the ball into the bottom corner for the match-winning goal that completed the 3-2 comeback.

The result ensured Al Duhail cemented their spot in third place on the log on 16 points, three behind table-topping Al-Sadd.
