SUMMARY
  • The former Gor Mahia striker was first on target in the 73rd minute after converting a penalty.
  • He completed his brace with a minute left of regulation time.
  • The two goals extended his goal tally to eleven this season.

Harambee Stars skipper Michael Olunga extended his goalscoring form after finding the back of the net once again to help his AL Duhail side get back to winning ways in the Qatar Stars League following their march played on Friday March 15.

The goalscoring machine scored a brace which helped Al Duhail to grab an important 3-1 win over Al Shamal at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium.

His two goals goals helped his side to secure victory for the first time after going for nine consecutive games without recording a win, making them suffer a huge blow in trying to defend their league title.

In the match, the former Gor Mahia striker was first on target in the 73rd minute after he converted a penalty past Al Shamal goalkeeper El Rady Mohamed.

The fine-taken penalty was the second for the night for Al Duhail as Suhaib Gannan had brought the home side level after conceding first. The away side opened the scoring through Omid Ebrahimi's strike.

The Harambee Stars striker turned the game around by extending Al Duhail's lead in what the fans described as Fergie time's goal as he scored in the 89th minute to increase his goal tally to four in five games after returning from injury.

Al Duhail has now 22 points and remains sixth in the log with six wins in the season. So far, Olunga has netted 11 goals this season and is keen to extend his goalscoring form when Al Duhail face Al Khor on Tuesday for the cup quarter-final.

The win came at the back of several frustrating defeats for Al Duhail. Last weekend, the side suffered a 2-1 defeat to Al Wakrah in the Qatar Stars League.

Al Duhail failed to protect their early lead courtesy of Olunga's strike in the 25th minute and allowed Al Wakrah to restore parity in the 62nd minute through Khaled Ali.

Al Wakrah scored the winner in stoppage time through Benyettou. Despite the humiliating defeat, Olunga, who was substituted in the 78th minute, remained bullish that his side would return to winning ways.
