Namwamba vows to transform Benson Omalla’s former training centre in Kondele

The Sports CS made the remarks after visiting the institution located in Kisumu County.

- The duo recently received their national team call ups and have already scored their first goals for Harambee Stars.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has promised to
upgrade the Manyatta Youth Resource Centre (MYRC) into a satellite academy
under the Kenya Academy of Sports.
Namwamba made the government’s intention clear after visiting
the institution which is located in Kondele, Kisumu County.
“Truly humbled to visit and support the Manyatta Youth
Resource Center (MYRC) at the heart of Kondele, as well as Obwolo community ground
in Kajulu, both in Kisumu City.

We will elevate MYRC to a satellite academy of the Kenya
Academy of Sports and upgrade the Obwolo grounds to better serve the many local
teams that use the field,” read part of the statement from the CS.
Namwamba, who interacted with the kids at the instrumental
centre, also donated Ksh 100,000 and equipment including footballs to support
them as they chase their dreams.
Moreover, he urged the stakeholders at the centre to remain
focused in their goal of nurturing talents.

“Your programs, compliment and align seamlessly with our
Talanta Hela initiative that is revolutionizing this critical space of sports
and talent development. Let us all maintain the focus and continue unleashing a
multifold of next generation super stars,” he added.
During his fact-finding mission to Kajulu grounds, Namwamba made
a personal donation of Ksh 20,000 to Obwolo FC.
The MYRC is credited for discovering the talents of many
youngsters who continue to thrive across the universe. Notable names include
Gor Mahia youngsters Benson Omalla and Ronney Onyango.

The duo recently received their national team call ups and

Other players who are product of the centre are Luis Ingavi,
who landed a scholarship at the United States-based Montverde Academy, and
Vihiga Queens’ Sophie Obula.
Ingavi was the star boy in Kenya’s 5-0 thrashing of Sudan on Saturday, November 25 at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium, Mamboleo as he scored two well-taken goals in the thrilling encounter.
