"Disrespect goes with disrespect!"

These are words from Kenya Police midfielder Kenneth Muguna over his controversial celebration after scoring against record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia on February 3.

Speaking to Turf Talk, the talented midfielder noted that he was compelled to pull the infamous stunt on his former side due to the amount of criticism he received throughout the match.

Muguna lamented that before scoring that important goal that helped Kenya Police sink Gor Mahia 3-1, insults and unprintable words were hurled at him.

Bagging the opening goal, Muguna indicated that it helped him send a strong message to K'Ogalo, a side he captained in 2017 and 2018.

Despite the criticisms, intense pressure and uproar, Muguna insisted that he has no regrets over the controversial celebration.

"Before even I scored there were a lot of abuses from the fans and that is what made me do what I did. I do not regret it because disrespect goes with disrespect," Muguna insisted.

What Was the Celebration Like?

Austin Odhiambo scored the opening goal, but Kenneth Muguna scored the leveller before Tito Okello (both former Gor Mahia players) scored a brace to inspire the side to make a dramatic comeback and grab all three points.

After finding the back of the net, Muguna wheeled away while using his hands showing Gor Mahia fans to shut up.

That did not go down well with K'Ogalo fans who accused the midfielder of disrespecting his former side.

The fans noted that Muguna could have picked any other form of celebration instead of mocking a Premier League side that nurtured him.

His Stint at Gor Mahia

Muguna inspired Gor Mahia to win the FKF League title twice in 2017 and 2018. He was the captain of the side during the two memorable seasons.

He joined Gor after an unsuccessful spell at Albanian side FK Tirana after 10 months. Determined to pick up from where he left, he inspired the K'Ogalo to some historic wins in the Kenya Premier League.

After a successful stint, Muguna moved to  Tanzanian side Azam FC. His spell at the Tanzanian side was not that successful compelling him to return to Kenya.

Kenya Police snatched him as he was closing on a deal to re-join Gor Mahia.
