SUMMARY
  • Gor will host Al Ahly in Nairobi in the first leg at Nyayo National Stadium on 14 September.
  • The return leg will take place in Cairo on 21 September.
  • The winner on aggregate will proceed to the 24/25 CAF Champions League Group Stage.

Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia could get a significant financial boost should they manage to stun Egyptian giants Al Ahly and qualify for the Group Stage of the 24/25 CAF Champions League.

K’Ogalo will take on the record African champions in a two-legged Second Preliminary Round in September 2024 with the winner on aggregate booking their ticket to the Group Stage.

According to official figures released by CAF, the least Gor Mahia could pocket stands at USD 700,000 (approximately Ksh 90,278,451) and that will be if they finish third or last in their pool which will consist of four teams.

Gor will however need to be at their very best and hope for nothing short of a miracle if they are to make it as one of the 16 teams that will participate in the 24/25 continental campaign.

Al Ahly have won the last two Champions League titles and will be seeking a third straight crown to add to their record 12 championships.

K’Ogalo already pocketed USD 50,000 (around 6.5 million) for making it to the Preliminary Stage of the CAF Champions League.

The amount that started from the current 24/25 season was part of CAF’s new initiative aimed at easing the traveling and logistical costs associated with playing in club continental football.
