Liverpool coaches touch down in Nairobi for three days

A team of professional coaches from English Premier League
side Liverpool have jetted into the country for a special training programme
organised by the Standard Chartered Bank.
The tacticians from the third-placed club in the current EPL
season are engaging 35 coaches this week in Nairobi as part of their ‘Play On:
Train the Trainer’ programme.
According to the organizers of the event, the Liverpool coaches will be training the selected Kenyan coaches for three days with the primary focus being on training female soccer players and their coaches to empower them so as to succeed through sport.

Liverpool coaches will share vital lessons on ‘Person-Centred Approach’, ‘Barriers to Participation’, ‘Mental Health and Wellbeing’, ‘Balancing Life’ and ‘Empowering Women in Leadership’.
The coaches will then be taken through several practical
tests to gauge their understanding of the various topics covered.
Coaches from Vijana Amani Pamoja, a local NGO partner of
Futuremakers by Standard Chartered, are among a group of football academies
taking part in the training.
“This has been a hugely successful continuation of the ‘Play On: Train the Trainer’ programme in Kenya.

Working with the local coaches we’ve
explored LFC’s coaching philosophy, which puts the person above the player,
provided practical coaching guidance and given a unique insight for the
participants,” said Steven Gillespie, Senior Programme Manager of International
Academies at LFC.
“Play On is a really important project where the combined
resources of LFC and Standard Chartered can help girls stay in sport and strive
for success in all aspects of their life,” he continued.
On the other hand, Standard Chartered indicated that the
programme will help identify and nurture talent in the country especially from
vulnerable communities.

He lauded the initiative, noting that Liverpool coaches will
impact the local football scene and even motivate them further.
Standard Chartered and Liverpool Football Club launched
their joint ‘Play On’ campaign in May 2023 to inspire, empower and educate
girls to participate in sports, after learning that twice as many girls than
boys drop out of sports by age 14.
