Kipyegon, Moraa touch down in Paris as Kenya turn focus to potential medal events

1500 metre World record holder Faith Kipyegon is among the twelve Kenyan athletes who arrived in France on Tuesday ready for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

The two-time Olympic gold medallist and team captain touched down in the French capital alongside other stars including 800m world champion Mary Moraa and World 5000m bronze medalist Beatrice Chebet.

Timothy Cheruiyot, Brian Komen, Lilian Odira, Bernard Kibet, Vivian Chebet, Reynold Cheruiyot, Margaret Chelimo, Daniel Mateiko and Nicholas Kimeli were also among the stars in the traveling party.

“Training in Kenya went really well and I hope we are ready to do well in Paris,” Kipyegon said.

Kenya’s middle distance coach Bernard Ouma, who accompanied the team, backed the athletes to deliver the country’s first medals in the French capital following satisfactory preparation.

“The general preparations of the team have been good. NOC-K organized structured technical details that ensured all athletes’ needs were sorted out. We are coming here with a lot of confidence. I know the competition is too high but the preparation also has been perfect,” said Ouma.

“The spirit of the athletes in terms of motivation is good and we are looking forward to starting the competition. Our main target is now to deliver medals for Kenya.

Our preparations have been okay and the athletes are highly motivated, the coaches are also up to the task.

The athletics events which start tomorrow and ends on August 11 will be held at Stade de France.
