SUMMARY
  • Kenya's rugby legends won the first leg played in Uganda 38-6.
  • The return leg will be played at the RFUEA Grounds on 23 September.
  • Legends such as Humprey Kayange, Collins Injera and Lavin Asego will all be in action.

Lead gaming firm SportPesa will be the official title sponsors for the return leg clash that will pit Kenyan rugby legends against their Ugandan counterparts in a match slated to take place at the storied RFUEA Grounds on Saturday 23 September 2023.

The affair, which will witness the most famous names to have graced the rugby fields in both countries going head to head, will take fans down the memory lane as it serves the purpose of reliving the glory days of some of the greatest Kenyan and Ugandan rugby players.

“We are very delighted to announce that SportPesa have come on board as our title sponsor for the return leg vs the Uganda Rugby Legends on the 23rd of September. We are very grateful and look forward to an amazing day as we battle for the SportPesa Legends Cup!” a statement from Nondescripts Legends read.

Playing in front of their home fans, Kenya’s all-time greats will be out to complete the job they started where they hit the Uganda Veterans 38-6 in the first leg played back in March this year.

In that win, the side managed by former Kenya 7s ace Oscar Osir struck through the evergreen Kevin Gachoka, World Rugby Hall of Famer Humprey Kayange and current Kenya Simbas director Moses Mukabane.

Lavin Asego, who made history as the first Kenyan to score 1000 points for Kenya in the World Series, also scored for the Kenyan Legends as he transported the fanbase back to his heydays as Kenya’s deadliest fly-half.

Speaking ahead of the return clash, former Kenyan international George Mbaye expressed his gratitude to SportPesa for the partnership as he fired a warning to the hurting Ugandans who are out for revenge.

“The game needs support. So, when a big brand like SportPesa comes to support you, they get a lot off your back in terms of funding, logistics and preparation for the game.

The sponsorship has come at the right time and we are happy to have SportPesa behind us in terms of support. We look forward to working together also in the long-term going into the future,” he said.

I hear the Ugandans say they are coming to get it. Let them know that we got it in Uganda, and it is going to stay here,” he added.
