SUMMARY
  • Comoros scored their two goals after Kenya were reduced to ten men.
  • Affane Said Djambae scored the two goals for the Comoros.
  • Kenya now have a do-or-die fixture against Zimbabwe in their last Group fixture.

Just three days after pulling off a huge upset against record Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Cup champions Zambia, Kenya could not maintain the same consistency as they succumbed to a shocking 0-2 defeat against Comoros in their second Group B match played on Sunday afternoon.

Needing a win to assume full control of proceedings in their pool, the Ken Odhiambo-coached side ended up on the losing side after Affande Said Djambae bagged a brace to hand Comoros their first win in the tourney (W1 L1).

The two Comoros goals however came after Kenya were reduced to ten men in the 33rd minute when Paul Ochuoga was sent for an early shower following two yellow cards, his second booking proving to be double tragedy as it led to a penalty that Affande Said converted in the 34th minute for the opening goal.

The striker picked up his second  just four minutes upon the second half’s resumption after pouncing on a miscued shot from Moudhoiffar Ali Mze before tucking the ball in the bottom corner after deceiving the goalkeeper with his eyes.

"We were disjointed after the red card because these young boys did not know how to react. Hopefully, by Sunday we should have rectified on our mistakes when we play the final game.

We were always in a rush and we were never clinical with our chances. If we took the chances we created especially in the first half, it would have been a different ball game," Odhiambo assessed after the game.

"You cannot underrate any team. We will try and get a win in the last game in order to get to the semifinals," he added ahead of the last pool clash against Zimbabwe.
