The Kenya rugby legends brought the Entebbe International Airport in Uganda to a standstill after touching down in style to the Pearl of Africa early Thursday morning ahead of their encounter against the Uganda rugby legends on Saturday 8 June at the Kings Park Arena in Kampala.

Rocking their conspicuous khaki pants, white shirts and neatly pressed maroon blazers, the celebrated roster of distinguished former top-flight players made their presence felt as onlookers watched in awe as the players confidently strolled in.

Headlined by Kenya 7s all-time top try scorer Collins Injera and his older brother Humprey Kayange, who became the first Kenyan to be inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame, the team then proceeded to their base in Kampala where they had a blowout session in readiness for the second edition of the clash against the Ugandans.

Last year, the Kenyan legends won 6-38 in the first leg played in Uganda before picking a 31-12 victory at home to clinch the 2023 Legends Cup, a result that the team will be out to get once again as they seek to maintain the bragging rights in the fierce rugby rivalry between the two sessions.

“It’s exciting to be here once again for the Uganda versus Kenya Legends game and we are expecting a really good game from the hosts because we have seen a lot of preparation from their side compared to last year.

We might have gotten them a bit off guard then but I expect they will be ready this time. Nonetheless, we are up to the task as we have been training well for the trip,” Kenya legends head coach Oscar Osir told SportPesa News.

Having completed the double over Uganda in the 2023 edition, the Kenya Legends will be captained by Eddie Omondi who hoisted the Legends Cup at the RFUEA Grounds in September last year.

Lavin Asego, the first Kenyan to score 1000 points in the World Series, has also been named in the traveling party and will be looking to transport the fans back to his heydays as Kenya’s deadliest fly-half.

So will the boisterous Victor Sudi and the evergreen Kevin Gachoka who will be looking to form a winning team alongside the ageless Moses Mukabane who currently serves as the Director in charge of 15s at the Kenya Rugby Union.

KCB RFC stalwart Curtis Lilako, who recently retired from active rugby back in 2023, has also made the squad for the first time alongside George Asin, Sean Edwards, Peter Tyrell, Steve Odhiambo, Odi Odera and Joel Ng’ang’a.

George Mbaye who took to the pitch last year has been named in the technical bench that will be led by head coach Osir alongside George Odhiambo, Jeff Onyango and Solomon Munyua.

Leading online gaming firm SportPesa announced a 2 million in sponsorship support towards the doubleheader against Uganda.
