Kenya confirmed as co-hosts for CHAN 2024 with Tanzania and Uganda

Tanzania Football Federation President Wallace Karia confirmed the news over the weekend.

- An official despatch released back in October by the Kenyan Cabinet Office revealed Kenya had been selected to host the continental championship in 2024.
- According to Karia, each nation will provide one venue for the competition.
- Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania were mentioned as hosts alongside Zanzibar.
The Council of East and central African Football
Associations (CECAFA) chief Wallace Karia has confirmed that Kenya will co-host
the 2024 African Nations Championship popularly known as CHAN alongside
Tanzania and Uganda.
In October this year, the Kenyan government approved plans
to host the 18-team tournament reserved for players who are playing in their
domestic leagues, but Karia, who is also the president of the Tanzania Football
Federation (TFF), said the event will now be spread out within the larger east
African region.

"Next year in September, we've been given the CHAN
hosting rights in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda and each nation, along with
Zanzibar will provide one venue for the competition," Karia said at an
annual general meeting of the TFF in the southern Tanzanian town of Iringa on
Saturday.
"We will ask CAF to group all the four teams of CECAFA
in the draw to create the competition between us."
An official despatch released back in October by the Kenyan Cabinet
Office under the Executive Office of The President revealed that the country
had been selected to host the continental championship in 2024 as well as other
two footballing events.

“In addition to AFCON 2027, Kenya has also been selected to
host the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in September, 2024; the CECAFA
Under-18 Championship in November, 2023; and the AFCON Under-15 (Pan- African
Schools Football) CECAFA Region Championship in December, 2023,” part of the
statement read then.
The three east African countries were also named by CAF in
September as joint hosts for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, bringing the
biennial tournament to the region for the first time since Ethiopia staged the
1976 finals.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is however yet
to confirm the official dates for the 2024 edition.

CHAN is a biennial tournament that consists of 18 nations.
The participating teams must consist of players playing in their national
league competitions.
Senegal are the defending champions having beaten hosts
Algeria 1-0 in the 2022 edition.
Kenya was awarded right to host the 2018 edition of the tournament but was stripped of the rights due to unpreparedness.
