The result means Kenya will not have any representative in continental football in the 23/24 season.

- Kakamega Homeboyz were making their first appearance in continental football after winning the cup competition.

- The second qualifying round ties will take place over two legs in September with winning clubs advancing to the Group Stage.
Football
Kenya Federation Cup holders Kakamega Homeboyz learnt the hard way what it takes
to play continental football as they were dumped from the 2023/24 CAF
Confederation Cup in the First Preliminary Round following their 4-1 humbling
against Libyan side Al Hilal Benghazi on Sunday night.
The Patrick
Odhiambo coached side failed to make their home advantage count as they were
held to a barren draw in the first leg played at the Nyayo National Stadium in
Nairobi and were made to pay when they travelled to Libya.
Just twelve
minutes into the match staged at the Benina Witnesses Stadium, Homeboyz found
themselves a goal down as Nigerian international Ifeanyi Oze opened the scoring
for the hosts.
Osama Beleid
made it two on the 25th minute before Eze bagged his second just
five minutes later to quickly turn the encounter into a one-sided affair.
A subdued
Homeboyz managed to pull one back through long-serving captain who found the
back of the net two minutes to the break to record the club’s first ever goal
in continental competitions.
That however
proved to be the most the club could manage as Al Hilal added a fourth goal late
into the clash to book their spot in the Second Preliminary Round with the 4-1 victory.
Following
the result, Kenya will not have any representative in African club competition
in the 23/24 season after Gor Mahia, who had booked a ticket in the CAF
Champions League courtesy of winning the league, were locked out of the
competition after failing to meet the club licencing criteria.
Elsewhere, Moroccan
club FUS Rabat continued their dominance by beating Benin's AS Loto 2-0 away to
advance 6-0 on aggregate.
Libya’s Abu
Salem held Olympique Beja to a 0-0 draw to progress 1-0 overall after their
first leg victory.
Ghana's
Dreams FC came from behind to defeat Milo FC of Guinea 2-1 and go through 4-3
on aggregate while Zambian club Zanaco beat Cano Sport of Equatorial Guinea 3-0
to complete a 5-1 aggregate success.
Despite losing 2-0 at home on Sunday, Tanzania's Singida United advanced 4-3 overall after their first leg demolition of Zanzibar's JKU FC.
The second qualifying round ties will take place over two legs in September as clubs aim for the group stage.
