K’Ogalo seek another step towards 21st title in tricky clash against Shabana

The last meeting between the two sides ended 1-0 in favor of Gor Mahia.

- Gor Mahia only need three wins in their six remaining fixtures to be declared champions.

Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) leaders Gor
Mahia are set to play Shabana FC in a mouthwatering clash on Saturday
afternoon.
The eagerly anticipated fixture is scheduled to be held at
the Mamboleo Stadium in Kisumu County from exactly 2 PM.
Gor Mahia, who are under the tutelage of Northern Irish
tactician Johnathan McKinstry, will be seeking to pick up the maximum points,
which will take them a step closer to retaining the title.
K’Ogalo have amassed 60 points so far this season, with six
matches remaining to the end of the competitive season and they need only three
wins to be declared champions.

The side which trains at the Mpesa Academy in Thika go into
Saturday’s match on the back of a huge 3-1 win over fellow SportPesa sponsored
side Murang’a Seal.
Benson Omala, who leads the Golden Boot race at the moment,
scored a brace in that entertaining game that was played at the SportPesa Arena
on Saturday, May 4.
Talented midfielder Austin Odhiambo also found the back of
the net for K’Ogalo with Murang’a Seal’s goal coming courtesy of John
Kiplangat.
On the other hand, Shabana squeezed past Sofapaka FC with a
1-0 victory in a match staged in Machakos on the same day.

The Sammy “Pamzo” Omollo-coached side occupy 15th position
in the table standings at the moment with 28 points and any defeat between now
and the end of the season may get them relegated.
According to Elizaphan Kerama, Shabana’s secretary general,
the upcoming match is a tricky one for them.
“The match between the defending champions Gor Mahia and the
National Super League (NSL) champions Shabana promises to be an event where the
outcome is uncertain until the final whistle blows,” noted Kerama.

On his part, Gor Mahia boss urged their fans to fill
Mamboleo Stadium and help the team overcome Shabana.
“I ideally want to see the Stadium only green on Saturday.
That is what I want to see. And like I said, since the start of my time here,
be part of the journey. You know at any moment now if we continue with this
form, then the prizes are getting handed out soon,” he commented.
A win in Saturday’s tie will ensure they open a 12-point gap between them and an in-form Police FC side, who sit second.
