Diogo Jota scored a brace as Liverpool beat Leicester City 2-0 at Anfield On Thursday to keep their English Premier League title hopes alive.

Jurgen Klopp's side now has 51 points, nine adrift of runaway league leaders Manchester City but they have played a game less.

Jota opened the scoring in the 34th minute and put the icing on the cake with three minutes left on the clock to seal all three points for the reds.

Liverpool began the game with their talisman Mohamed Salah on the bench after losing the Africa Cup of Nations final four days ago.

But Jota stepped up again in their absence, taking his goal tally for the season to 17, while there was also an impressive Premier League debut from Luis Diaz, their January signing from Porto.

This was Leicester's third straight league game without victory and they remain in 12th place with 26 points after the dismal run of performances.

Jota is second on the goal-scoring charts this season with 12 goals, four goals less than his teammate Salah.

Elsewhere, 10-man Arsenal fought hard to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 to leapfrog Man United into the league's top five.

Gabriel scored in the 25th minute to propel Arsenal to 39 points after 22 league games thus far.

Gabriel Martinelli's red card midway through the second half sparked heavy pressure from the home side but Mikel Arteta's team held on for the three points.

This was Wolves first defeat in six games and they remain in 8th place with 34 points.
