Injera, Kayange headline Kenya Legends squad for 2024 Uganda trip
3rd June 2024
Lead online gaming firm SportPesa pumped 2 million in sponsorship support to the Kenyan legends.
- Last year, the Kenyan legends won 6-38 in the away trip to Uganda before picking a 31-12 victory at home to clinch the 2023 Legends Cup.
- They will play the first leg on 8 June at the Kings Park Arena in Kampala.
- This year's squad has the likes of celebrated Shujaa icon Collins Injera, Lavin Asego, George Mbaye, Oscar Sudi, Moses Mukabane and captain Eddie Omondi.
Kenya 7s all-time top try scorer Collins Injera and his
older brother Humprey Kayange will be looking to roll back the years after
being included in the 23-man Kenya Rugby Legends squad set to take on the
Uganda Legends at the Kings Park Arena in Kampala, Uganda on 8 June.
The duo, who once represented the men’s national rugby 7s
side to the highest possible standards at the World Rugby Sevens Series stage,
will be joined by a celebrated roster of distinguished former top-flight
players who will be out to maintain the bragging rights in the fierce rugby
rivalry between the two nations.
Having completed the double over Uganda in the 2023 edition,
the Kenya Legends will be captained by Eddie Omondi who hoisted the SportPesa
Legends Cup at the RFUEA Grounds in September last year.

Lavin Asego, the first Kenyan to score 1000 points in the
World Series, has also been named in the traveling party and will be looking to
transport the fans back to his heydays as Kenya’s deadliest fly-half.
So will the boisterous Victor Sudi and the evergreen Kevin
Gachoka who will be looking to form a winning team alongside the ageless Moses
Mukabane who currently serves as the Director in charge of 15s at the Kenya
Rugby Union.
KCB RFC stalwart Curtis Lilako, who recently retired from active
rugby back in 2023, has also made the squad alongside George Asin, Sean
Edwards, Peter Tyrell, Steve Odhiambo, Odi Odera and Joel Ng’ang’a.
George Mbaye who took to the pitch last year has been named
in the technical bench that will be led by head coach Oscar Osir alongside
George Odhiambo, Jeff Onyango and Solomon Munyua.

the doubleheader against Uganda.
At the event that also doubled up as the venue for the new

expect to face this time round after dominating last year as he thanked
SportPesa for holding their hands.
“What we should expect this year is a lot of preparation
from Uganda and we can see that they have gone ahead and beefed up their team.
We might have gotten them a bit off guard last year but I
expect they will be ready this time. Nonetheless, we are up to the task as we
have been training well for the trip,” he said.
