Harambee Stars journey man Ayub Timbe completes topflight move to Azerbaijan

Harambee Stars experienced forward Ayub Masika Timbe has secured a transfer move to Azerbaijan-based club Sabail FC.

Masika joins the topflight side from Chinese side Nanjing City FC for an undisclosed fee and his short-term contract is expected to run until the end of the season.

“Sabail PFK has completed the signing of another player in the winter transfer period. After Madi Queta, our team signed a contract with Kenyan footballer Ayub Masika until the end of the season,” read part of the statement released by the club.

According to a short video clip posted on Sabail FC’s Facebook page, Timbe is expected to don the number 77 jersey.

The pacey winger, who has previously had a chance to play alongside the likes of former Liverpool forward Christian Benteke, is likely to make his maiden appearance today in Sabail FC’s Misli Premier League encounter against Zira on Monday afternoon.

Timbe began his football career at Ligi Ndogo academy before moving to other academies such as JMJ and Anderlecht.

He went on to play for top clubs around the universe including Belgian side Genk, Lierse, Vissel Kobe, and Buriram United.

Timbe also had stints with Reading, Beijning Renhe, and Heilongjiang Ice City Football Club. 

The player, who was born at the Pumwani Hospital in Kenya’s capital city Nairobi, made his international debut in 2012 against South Africa.

However, he had to wait for a few years before eventually netting his first goal for Harambee Stars in 2015 in Kenya’s 2-1 aggregate win against Mauritius in an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification match.

His amazing free kick helped Harambee Stars book a ticket to the second round of the qualifiers. 

The skilful player has made a total of 24 appearances for Kenya so far, scoring four goals in the process. 

Some of the titles Timbe has won in his glistering career include a Belgian Cup, Thai FA Cup and Thai League 1.
