1st November 2023
8 matches will be on the cards on Wednesday.
- Gor Mahia currently sit in second place on 16 points, three behind table topping Posta Rangers.
- Shabana are third from bottom on 7 points.
- AFC Leopards will face Kariobangi Sharks seeking their second win of the season.
Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia will be out to silence
Shabana in a mouthwatering Round 9 midweek Football Kenya Federation Premier
League fixture set to take place at the Kasarani Main Stadium on Wednesday
afternoon.
The Johnathan McKinstry-coached side will be hoping to get
back to winning ways in the clash following their disappointing 0-0 draw over
the weekend against a spirited Bidco United in a result that saw them lose
ground on current table-toppers Posta Rangers who opened a three-point gap at
the league summit.
On the other hand, Shabana go into the game on the back of their heaviest defeat of the season after being thrashed 4-0 by Ulinzi Stars.

Since their promotion back to the top-flight after a 17-year
absence, the clash will mark the first time the Kisii-based side, who won the
22/23 National Super League title to gain promotion, square up against the
20-time champions in what will be their toughest opponents yet.
Speaking ahead of the match, Gor Mahia head coach called on
his side, who are yet to be beaten this season (W4 D4), to rise above their
weekend disappointment as they take on a hurting Shabana side that will throw
the kitchen sink at them in a bid to make up for their thrashing.
“We have to try and pick up points and that is what we will be targeting in the game against Shabana. We are expecting a lot of energy because they will be very disappointed with their result against Ulinzi over the weekend.

Prior to that, they have been in games and they obviously
beat Tusker in Kasarani so we expect them to come fighting back but we are
confident going into it because we enjoy playing in front of big crowds which
we know will come from both set of fans,” McKinstry noted.
In another clash, AFC Leopards will be hoping to build on
their first win of the season when they face Kariobangi Sharks at the Ulinzi
Sports Complex.

Newly appointed Tomas Trucha, in his second game in charge,
steered the team to a 0-1 victory over Nzoia Sugar that brought the team’s
seven-match winless streak to an end as it lifted them out of the relegation
places.
Sharks on the other hand will be eyeing for consistency after Julius Masaba’s last-minute strike against Kakamega Homeboyz helped them to their third win of the season.
