SUMMARY
  • The 20-time Kenyan champions are currently top of the table.
  • They are on 31 points, four ahead of second placed KCB.
  • They opened the four-point gap after beating FC Talanta 0-2 in match week 15.

The 2023/2024 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) is going perfectly well for defending champions Gor Mahia FC.

The club recently opened a four-point gap at the helm of FKFPL standings after beating FC Talanta 0-2 in match week 15 and in the process moved their tally to 31.

Austine Odhiambo played a crucial role yet again to help K’Ogalo pick up maximum points in a weekend which saw most title contenders slip as he scored one of the two goals in the win.

On top of the excellent teamwork at the camp, two of Jonathan McKinstry’s charges have stepped up this season to help Gor Mahia reach where they are now and their form would likely determine whether the club retains the title or not.

Benson Omalla, who earned his maiden national cap earlier this year has been one of the most important players for Gor Mahia so far.

Omalla has been clinical in front of goal and currently leads the top scorer’s race with nine goals, three more than his closest rivals Boniface Muchiri of Ulinzi Stars and Kakamega Homeboyz’ Moses Shumah. Nairobi City Stars’ Vincent Owino has also found the back of the net six times this season.

Other players who are in contention for the coveted award include Murang’a Seal’s danger man Awita Batts, Ingwe’s Brian Yakhama and Uganda Cranes’ striker Derrick Nsibambi, who plays for the coastal-based side Bandari FC - they all have five goals to their names.

K’Ogalo’s goalkeeper Kevin Omondi is also playing an influential role in the competitive title race.

The youngster has kept nine clean sheets this season and is in control of the golden glove race.
