Gor Mahia out to make amends in crunch clash against Posta Rangers
2nd March 2024
Rangers are in second place behind Gor Mahia in the league table.
- The top-of-the-table clash will take place at the Machakos Stadium.
- Gor can move ten points clear at the top with victory.
- A total of five matches will be played on Saturday.
Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia will need nothing short of
victory when they take on second-placed Posta Rangers in a top-of-the-table
Football Kenya Federation Premier League clash on Saturday afternoon at the
Machakos Stadium.
The current table toppers last weekend bowed to a shocking
Round of 32 exit from the Football Kenya Federation Cup after being stunned by
non-league side Denmak, ending any hopes of a league and cup double for the
Kenyan football giants.
It is on the back of that disappointing loss that the
20-time Kenyan champions need to at least make amends to their fans who were
left with an egg on their faces as they joined the list of top tier sides that
were denied a chance of progressing to the Round of 16 alongside Bandari and FC
Talanta.

The clash against Rangers however provides Gor with an
instant shot at redemption as victory is guaranteed to leave them at least ten
points clear at the summit, a reward they would be willing to take as the
season draws towards its end.
It will also be a chance for the Johnathan McKinstry-coached
side to complete the double over the mailmen as Kennedy Onyango’s bullet header
was enough to claim all three points for Gor in the first leg between the two
sides in January 2024.
“We were extremely disappointed because we wanted to go deep
into the cup but football does not work like that sometimes. We have to reset
and go again against Posta Rangers now,” McKinstry stated after their loss to
Denmak.

Rangers on their part will be out to turn around their
fortunes against Gor as they have not won in any of their last three encounters
(D1 L2).
A win for them will see the John Kamau-led side cutting Gor
Mahia’s lead to five points.
Elsewhere, four other matches will be taking place across
the country. A doubleheader will take place at Thika Stadium with FC Talanta hosting
Kakamega Homeboyz in the first match before Bidco United take on Sofapaka.
Kariobangi Sharks will face off against Nairobi City Stars
at Police Sacco with Muhoroni Youth taking on Tusker at the Muhoroni Stadium.
