Gor Mahia out to consolidate top spot as Murang’a Seal seek winning formula
9th December 2023
Gor currently have a two-point gap at the top of the table.
- Gor Mahia will face Nzoia Sugar in Homabay.
- Murang'a Seal take on Ulinzi Stars at the SportPesa Arena in Murang'a.
- KCB face FC Talanta while Nairobi City Stars host Bandari.
Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia will be aiming to extend
their stay at the top of the 23/24 Football Kenya Federation Premier League
when they host a struggling Nzoia Sugar at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homabay
on Saturday afternoon.
The 20-time Kenyan champions assumed control of the league
table last weekend after Lawrence Juma’s last gasp goal ensured a hard fought 1-2
win for K’Ogalo who capitalized on Posta Rangers’ slip to open a two-point gap
at the summit.
Having extended their unbeaten streak to 13 games with that win, Gor, who are the only side yet to taste defeat this season, turn their attention to a Nzoia side on the other extreme end of the table.

In 13 games played, the sugar millers sit in second last
position on the log having managed only two wins so far (D3 L8). Currently, the
team are also on a three-match losing streak and will face a daunting task when
they face Gor.
In the build up to the match, K’Ogalo boss Johnathan McKinstry
was reflecting on reaching 50 games (29W 16D 5) with the club and the biggest
change he implemented with his technical bench since taking over at the club.
“We wanted to create a template of playing attacking and attractive football but the club was conceding too many goals.

If you are not
conceding, it gives you a platform to win football matches and to rack up
points and that is the reality check we gave the team when we came in and we
have seen a change in that department,” the Northern Irishman said in an interview
with the club.
Matches between Gor and Nzoia tend to be closely contested affairs with the last five ending in three draws with both sides getting one win each in the other two games.
In other clashes, Murang’a Seal will be seeking to rediscover their winning touch when they host Ulinzi Stars at the SportPesa Arena.

Having made a storming start to the league, the newbies are currently
on a rough patch as they have failed to manage a win in their last three games
(D1 L2), form that has seen them drop to sixth place on the log table.
Ulinzi on the other hand will be seeking to build on their
win last time out where Boniface Muchiri scored a hat trick against FC Talanta
to end the team’s three-match losing streak.
KCB will get Round 14 underway with an early kickoff match against Talanta at the Police Sacco Grounds with Nairobi City Stars hosting Bandari at Ruaraka Grounds in the other clash.
