Gor Mahia handed 2 million fine following fan trouble in Kasarani

Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia have been slapped with a fine of Kshs. 1,995,000 as the cost of damages their fans left at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani following their barren draw against Murang’a Seal last weekend.

In that match, a section of fans from the 20-time Kenyan champions stormed the pitch in protest of the officiating before chaotic scenes unfolded between them and security personnel who were forced to use teargas canisters to calm the situation.

During that confrontation, some rowdy fans destroyed seats at the stadium and engaged in a tussle with the security personnel.

After an audit of the damages, Sports Kenya, who are in charge of managing sporting facilities in the country, handed the fine to Gor Mahia who were the home team for the match.

“During the match between Gor Mahia FC vs. Muranga Seals FC played on 11th November, 2023 at the Moi International Sports Centre - Kasarani, Gor Mahia FC being the host team, violence erupted where Gor Mahia fans caused mayhem and damaged the following.

You are therefore, required to pay the amounts indicated above to enable Sports Kenya to replace the seats and carry out the other repairs,” a statement from Sports Kenya to Gor Mahia read.

Sports Kenya further instructed Gor Mahia to submit an action plan of how they intend to stop such incidences from occurring again, failure to which their fans would not be allowed into the Sports Kenya managed facilities.


“Further, Gor Mahia FC is required to submit to Sports Kenya an elaborate plan of action on how the club will be able to contain such actions from their fans.

Failure to submit an action plan, Sports Kenya will have no option but to deny fans entry during any other matches involving your team,” the statement read.

K’Ogalo will also need to pay the fine imposed on them first before being allowed to host any game at Kasarani or Nyayo Stadium.

“Take note that Gor Mahia will not be allowed to host any matches in any of Sports Kenya facilities until the amount is settled,” the statement copied to Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, his Principal Secretary and the Football Kenya Federation President, concluded.
