Gor Mahia head coach Jonathan McKinstry is confident that his side will kick start their 2022/23 Kenya Premier League season with a win against Nzoia Sugar on Saturday.

This will be his first competitive game in charge of the 19-time champions after an extensive pre season prompted by the delay of the league's start.

K'Ogalo will kick off proceedings with a home match against Nzoia Sugar at the Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday at 3pm.

McKinstry replaced German tactician Andreas Spier who left at the end of last season after steering K'Ogalo to a top-four finish in the country's topflight league.

Despite going down 3-1 to Nairobi City Stars in their last friendly, McKinstry is confident that his new-look side has what it takes to pick up 3 points when the highly anticipated season gets underway.

"It's been a very long pre-season but it has not been all that bad for us as a club. We've had time to work on a lot of things and with that, we are prepared for the challenge the new season brings.

"There are plenty of players in my squad who have never played at such a high level but I believe they are all ready to show a good account of themselves starting Saturday," the 37-year old tactician stated.

The start of the league comes two days after sponsors SportPesa held a monumental event to launch Gor Mahia's new Umbro kits they will use for the new season.

The jersey in itself is special because it was specifically made and designed particularly for the club and has an amazing 3D club badge imprinted on the top left corner of the shirt.

The home kit is their customary green color while their away kit is white with flashes of green in a customized print falling on the front bottom of the shirt.

"Our new kit looks really nice and I bet my players are looking forward to putting it on as we play our first home game this weekend.

"I am eager to see our fans back at the stadium, it's been a long time with the pandemic and then the delays but now they have the chance to show up for us and as always, we will strive to make them proud," McKinstry added.

"It's never easy in the KPL which more often than not could even be a five-horse race and we know it won't be easy against Nzoia but we are more than capable of bagging all 3 points," he concluded.

Gor will then take on Bidco in their first away match of the season next weekend before hosting Wazito FC.
