Prior to the game, a wary Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry had pointed to Denmark having some slight advantage owing to the nature of the playing surface and the weather conditions in the area, and that turned out to be the case as the hosts registered the shock result.

K'Ogalo made a raft of changes to their starting eleven goalkeeper Caleb Otieno handed his first start in the 23/24 campaign as Paul Ochuoga (right back) and attacking midfielder John Macharia also entrusted with rare starts.

Gor failed to get going as the deadlock remained intact by the halftime break. The same was witnessed in the second period as both sides failed to find the back of the net forcing the game to the shootouts.

Denmark would go on to complete the remarkable win as they held for a 5-4 victory to sail through to the Round of 16.

The result left Gor as the third top-flight team to be bundled out of the cup competition after Bungoma Stars beat both Bandari and FC Talanta in the Preliminary Round and Round of 32 respectively.
