SUMMARY
  • Shujaa will be hoping to continue with their impressive form in the 2024 Challenger Series.
  • They lifted the main cup final in the opening leg in Dubai.
  • The team will face Portugal, Georgia and Tonga in Uruguay in Pool A.

The men’s national 7s team, Shujaa, will be hoping to extend their winning streak in the second outing of the Challenger Series 2024 set to take place in Montevideo, Uruguay from 8-10 March.

The Kevin ‘Bling’ Wambua-coached side is optimistic about building on the first outing held in Dubai back in January as they continue with their quest of gaining promotion back to the World Sevens Series.

Fresh from winning the Dubai leg where they beat Chile 12-5 in the final, Wambua expects a tough test once again over the three-day tournament.

Vincent Onyala, Shujaa's co-captain, backed the team to claim the Uruguay series and set eyes on returning to the HSBC SVNS having suffered humiliating relegation in 2023 after 19 years.

"We had a stellar performance in the first one and we hope to replicate the same here at the second leg. We are ready for the task and we hope our fans are out there supporting us. We are not going to disappoint you," Onyala stated.

He noted that the team was using the Challenger Series as a build up towards the Paris Olympics 2024 where they are hoping to secure what would be a historic podium finish.
