SUMMARY
  • Gor Mahia currently sit eight points clear at the top of the table.
  • A win over Muhoroni will open up an 11-point gap which will be mathematically insurmountable with only three matches left.
  • Muhoroni Youth on their part are desperate for three points to fight relegation.

Gor Mahia could end the day as Kenyan champions for a record-extending 21st time should they beat Muhoroni Youth in a Round 31 league match set for the SportPesa Arena on Sunday afternoon in Murang’a.

Currently sitting eight points clear at the top of the table, K’Ogalo know that victory against relegation-threatened Muhoroni will clinch the 23/24 Football Kenya Federation Premier League title as it would mean that their eleven-point gap will be mathematically insurmountable with only three games left.

Having drawn on Thursday against KCB at the same venue, the Johnathan McKinstry-led side will be out to get the job done against a side that has not beaten them since 2018 according to data from Flashscore (W8 D2).

Speaking ahead of the match, McKinstry, who will be eager to get a second successive title at Gor before his imminent departure to take over as the new national team head coach for The Gambia, had only one word to the K’Ogalo fanbase -turn up.

“We know we are one win away, we win and we are there. Be here for it, come out on Sunday and let’s make this a real home game for us against Muhoroni Youth,” he told SportPesa News.

McKinstry is expected to fly out to The Gambia after the game against Muhoroni Youth before he comes back to see out his contract for the last three remaining games after the international break.

On the other part, Muhoroni Youth will be out to spoil Gor Mahia’s party while they try to save their own sinking ship.

The team is currently in second-last place on the table with 28 points and are desperately in need of positive results to beat the drop.

Three points on the day would be a massive gain for them as it would lift them upto 14th place, two points clear of the relegation places.

They have however picked only one win in their last thirteen matches (D7 L5), leaving them with a huge mountain to climb when they turn up for the Gor clash.
