SUMMARY
  • Seal took the lead on two occasions but Bandari clawed their way back on both occasions.
  • The Dockers then scored late on to go back to winning ways after two draws.
  • The result extended Seal's winless run to ten games.

Coastal-based Bandari FC showed incredible character on Sunday afternoon to stage a dramatic 2-3 win away to Murang’a Seal at the SportPesa Arena.

After trailing on two occasions and managing to come back into the game both times, the Dockers handed the top-flight debutants a late sucker punch as they scored the winning goal in the last minute of added time to steal the three crucial points.

John Baraza’s decision to bring on Hamisi Mwaphalu proving to be a masterstroke as the player scored the late winning goal that extended Seal’s winless streak to ten games (D4 6L).

Playing in front of their home fans, it is Seal who got the dream start in the match when Titus Kapchanga timed his run to perfection as he flicked Joe Waithira's corner kick delivery into the back of the net to give his side the lead.

That early goal was almost canceled just two minutes later but Abdalla Hassan missed a sitter after good work from Umaru Kasumba down the left who found him with an inch-perfect cross that he headed over the bar with an open goal.

However, just four minutes later, the Harambee Stars international atoned for his miss as he tapped into an empty net after capitalizing on a goalkeeping error.

Bonphas Munyasa came out to collect a long cross delivered into the area by Atariza Amai only to miss getting any contact onto the ball as Kasumba crossed it into Hassan's path who had the simple job of redirecting it into the goal for the leveller.

The game then dropped into an equal contest with Bandari first controlling proceedings before Seal got back into their stride in the last quarter of the half.

Their endeavors almost paid off a minute before the break when Bandari almost played themselves into trouble with Shassiri Nahimana overhitting a back pass that almost caught Joseph Ochuka napping only for the keeper to make a last-ditch clearance on the line.

The second half would see Seal coming out of the changing rooms the same way they went in with momentum on their side as they controlled proceedings.

Their pressure paid off in the 66th minute when captain Peter Mwaura was at the right place to finish a goal-mouth scramble after a corner kick that Bandari failed to deal with properly.

But just like the first half, the lead didn't last more than five minutes as an innocuous-looking aerial ball bounced into the path of substitute Francis Kahiro who struck with pinpoint precision to level once again.

Seal upped the ante afterwards but all their efforts just could not translate to a goal despite their best efforts.

They would see all their hard work go in vain when Mwaphalu hit very much against the run of play with the last meaningful action that handed them the win.
