Athletics Kenya postpones two key events

The athletics governing body made the announcement on Wednesday.

- The events that were affected are the Lotto Foundation Cross Country and an AK relay meeting.
- The track and field events including relay races were brought forward this year unlike in the past to allow runners prepare themselves adequately for the upcoming African Games.
- The relay meetings will also be used to select a formidable team to represent the country in the eagerly awaited 2024 World Relay Championships

Athletics Kenya announced the postponement of two major national
events on Wednesday 22 November 2023.
The events that were affected are the Lotto Foundation Cross Country and an AK relay meeting but Barnaba Korir, who is in charge of youth development at Athletics Kenya, did not give any reasons behind the decision.
“Athletics Kenya regrets to announce that the Lotto Foundation Cross Country that was scheduled to take place on 9th December 2023 in Nanyuki has been postponed to a later date,” read his statement in part.

The former Kenyan international ended by confirming the new
dates for the first relay meetings that was slated for Friday, December 1.
“We also wish to announce that the AK sprints middle
distance and field events build up / 1st AK relay weekend meeting that was
scheduled to take place on 1st and 2nd December, 2023 in Kisumu has been moved
to the 8th and 9th December at the same venue.
The track and field events including relay races were
brought forward this year unlike in the past to allow runners prepare
themselves adequately for the upcoming African Games scheduled for March 2024
in Ghana’s capital Accra.

Kipchoge’s legacy
The relay meetings will also be used to select a formidable
team to represent the country in the eagerly awaited 2024 World Relay
Championships expected to be held in Nassau, Bahamas between May 4 and May 5.
Elsewhere, Kenyan runners are expected to square it out at
the Chepsaita Cross Country in Kapsaos, Uasin Gishu County on December 2.
Farouk Kibet, who is the patron of the inaugural event
warned runners earlier this week to expect a tough race during the inspection
of the course.

The race was officially launched by the Sports CS Ababu
Namwamba on Wednesday, November 22 in a ceremony held at the Weston Hotel,
Nairobi.
Some of the other dignitaries who attended the ceremony
include Athletics Kenya President Jackson Tuwei and Uasin Gishu Governor
Jonathan Bii.
Runners from different regions of the country will compete for a share of the whopping Ksh 7,000,000 prize money.
