NAIROBI, Kenya- Seasoned local online football journalist, Patrick Korir is the new Chief Executive Officer of second tier National Super League (NSL) side, Nairobi City Stars FC following the club's recent takeover by the Jonathan Jackson Foundation.

Korir joins the top management team of the former SportPesa Premier League side that is now headed by foundation boss Jonathan Jackson as Chairman with Francis Kamau coming in as the Chief Financial Officer according to a press statement released by the club.

The first task of the incoming bosses will be to prevent the side lying 17th on the NSL log on 26 points from 29 games, eight above the drop zone does not slip into the third tier having been relegated from the top flight when they finished bottom of the log in the 2016 season.

"I wish to put in all my experience to see to it that the club excels in its short- and long-term ambitions. I fully embrace the new challenge at my doorstep as fully commit to guide Nairobi City Stars to be a formidable club," Korir was quoted saying in the club brief.

The long-serving online journalist has been involved in local football media for 15 years and currently is the assistant tournament director of the Safaricom Chapa Dimba Tournament.

Jackson bought the team from former chairman, Peter Jabuya who took over as the boss of the Nairobi Kawangware estate-based club formerly known as World Hope FC in 2008 when it was acquired by the Ambassadors in Sport Kenya group.

"We are aware of the club’s recent challenges, but we thank former Chair Peter (Jabuya) for keeping it as a unit for this long. Our most immediate objective is to keep the team in the league (NSL) as we put in place elaborate plans for upcoming seasons,” Jackson who hails from Eldoret and is a scion of a family that established many schools in the region including the Mosoriot Teacher Training College stated.

"I thank God for fulfilling my desire to ensure that Nairobi City Stars stays afloat and not to die because of financial challenges. After over ten years with it I am happy to hand it over to an entity I am sure is able to take it to greater heights," outgoing chairman Jabuya is reported saying.

The new CFO, Kamau will ensure that City Stars as a club is professionally managed in financial terms and that the players are well facilitated to uplift their morale and keep their eyes on the ball.

The club also intends on reviving the Nairobi City Stars youth team and run periodic football clinics in various regions in Nairobi. The hope is to use football to get the youth engaged in healthy and safe pass times away from the dangers of drugs and gangs.

The club was founded in 2003 as World Hope Football Club, when it took over Kawangware FC, who had been relegated from the Premier League.

After one season in the Nationwide League, World Hope was promoted to the Kenyan Premier League. The club was owned by World Hope International, a charitable organisation.
