NAKURU, Kenya- SportPesa
Premier League (SPL) champions opened up a nine-point gap at the summit after a
2-1 win against Ulinzi Stars FC at the Afraha Stadium on Monday afternoon.
Ugandan forward Erisa Ssekisambu scored in the opening
minute of the game and substitute Samuel Onyango bagged the winner with three
minutes left in the game.
Ulinzi forward Enosh Ochieng’ continued his imperial goal
scoring form with the equalizer in the second half but it was not enough to
cage Gor.
The result leaves Gor in top spot with 58 points whilst
Ulinzi remain in seventh with 36.
The Afraha pitch was in a sorry state following the rains
that have recently hit the country and this played a huge role in the lack of
flowing football that was on display.

Gor were the most threatening side from the onset and opened
the scoring through Erisa Ssekisambu in the opening minute of the game.
Francis Mustapha sent in a beautiful cross, which Ssekisambu
rose to meet perfectly for the opening goal.
Most of the usual starting 11 players were rested, having
played four league games in one week, giving the younger players a chance to
show their might on the pitch.
Goalkeeper Shaban Odhoji continued his recent run of starts,
seeking yet another clean sheet, having not conceded a single goal in the last
three fixtures.
Coach Hassan Oktay opted for a front three of Ssekisambu,
who was supported by Nicholas Kipkirui and Burundi forward Mustapha.

The three linked up well and almost added a second goal on
the half hour mark but Kipkirui’s shot went flying over James Saruni’s goal.
Ugandan left back Shafiq Batambuze went down injured with a
minute left in the half and was stretchered off, being replaced by Geoffrey
Ochieng’.
Ulinzi came back stronger in the second half and had the
chance to level matters on the hour mark but Odhoji was up to the task to make
a great save.
Dependable Ulinzi forward Enosh Ochieng’ was once again the
man of the moment in the 76th, scoring his 14th goal of the campaign to level
the score.

coveted Golden Boot Award alongside Sofapaka FC’s Umaru Kasumba and Kakamega
Homeboyz FC captain Allan Wanga, who leads the race with 15.
The game looked to be heading for a stalemate, as both teams
desperately sought a winning goal.
