NAIROBI, Kenya- Gor Mahia FC coach Hassan Oktay hailed his team's resilience after they left it late to down NA Hussein Dey at the Kasarani Stadium to go top of Group D in the CAF Confederations Cup group stage.

Goals from Kenya international Francis Kahata and Rwandese forward Jacques Tuyisenge hoisted the record domestic league champions to the top of their pool with six points from three games.

The result was Gor’s second home victory following an impressive 4-2 demolition of Egyptian Giants Zamalek SC who drew 1-1 at home with Petro Atletico de Luanda later Sunday to leave their hopes of progressing to the quarterfinals of the second tier continental competition in jeorpady.

Petro de Luanda, who were 2-1 winners over Gor last week, are level on points with Hussein Dey but the Angolans boast a better goal difference.

 “We have to win our home matches, and get a point or so away and by doing that we will definitely make it to the next round of the competition.

“In this competition, the only way to stand a chance of going far, you have to be ruthless at home,” Oktay stated after the game.

Despite time wasting antics deployed by the visiting side throughout the encounter, the Kenyans held their cool and did not fall into the ploy and their persistence was rewarded when Kahata put them ahead in the 81st minute.

With four minutes left on the clock, Tuyisenge doubled the hosts advantage with a well taken right-footed strike that send the thousands of fans in attendance into ecstasy.

“They wasted time for the better part of the game and I told my players not to be distracted by the antics and push until the end.

“They never gave up and I knew the goal would eventually come. They fought hard and I’m happy that we managed to get the needed result at home,” the Turkish tactician added.

The goal was Tuysienge’s third in the competition in as many matches and K’Ogalo’s goal-scoring machine expressed his desire to become the top scorer in this year’s competition.

“I'm grateful to God for the goal and my teammates for a spirited performance. I hope to continue my form and I will push to be the tournament’s top scorer,” Tuyisenge underlined.

Gor will travel to Algeria for the return leg fixture against Hussein Dey on Sunday (March 3).
