HULL, United Kingdom- Nigel Adkins admitted that his Hull City FC side got dragged into a
second half scrap as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Rotherham United FC at the
KCOM Stadium.
The Tigers appeared
to be in total control as they went in 2-0 up at half time thanks to goals from
Jarrod Bowen and Fraizer Campbell, but the visitors capitalised on a shift in
momentum after the break to grab a share of the spoils.
“We played well in
the first half and started with a good goal from Jarrod Bowen,” said Adkins.
“We started the game
playing the way that we wanted to play with some good football and we didn’t
want it to become a scrap with the big, physical side that Rotherham are. We
passed the ball well and Fraizer Campbell scored a good goal after some nice
interplay,” Nigel Adkins stated.
“We could have
scored a couple more and we controlled the game well in the first half. The
mind set at half time is to make sure we don’t gift them any opportunities to
get back into the game but we did just that early in the second half.

“Our goalkeeper has
been excellent for us this season but unfortunately he’s made a mistake that
has given Rotherham a little bit of a lift.
“The second goal
comes shortly after that and we knew about their threat from long throws, free
kicks and corners. We’ve cleared the first ball in but then the referee’s view
is blocked and he can’t see a high foot on Jackson Irvine. Then the shot is
going wide but it gets a deflection and goes in so that’s quite unfortunate.
“What that did was
give the momentum to a Rotherham side that capitalised on it. Their tails were
up. We didn’t want it to be a scrap. Sometimes you have to give the opposition
credit because they made it that way. It’s hard to get out of that, although we
did have a really good chance towards the end but unfortunately Jackson Irvine
has missed the target,” the 53-year old tactician underlined.
The result leaves Hull
in 12th place on the Championship table with 44 points after 32 games.

“We’ve drawn the
game having been in a good position. We’ve got honest, hard-working players
that graft so hard every day and care. The dressing room was very quiet at the
end of the game because we’re aware that we’ve missed an opportunity to win
tonight.
“The first half was
what we wanted to the game to be, but a mistake and then a cruel deflection handed
the momentum to Rotherham,” Adkins concluded.
Hull’s next league
assignment is an away trip to Brentford FC on Saturday, February 23.
