Former Rally Driver Jonathan Toroitich, Son Of Ex-President Moi Dies

Ex-President Moi’s press secretary Mr Lee Njiru confirmed the untimely demise on Saturday morning and asked Kenyans to give the family some privacy in this time of grieving

NAIROBI, Kenya- Kenya was plunged into mourning on Friday evening as former rally driver Jonathan Moi, son to the former president Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi passed away.

For many moons, Easter meant one thing in Kenya, the Safari Rally- and it is a coincidence that Mr Toroitich took his last breath on the start of the holidays.

Jonathan was the first born of President Moi’s eight children, whom he had with Leah Moi, who passed away in 2004.

His brothers are Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, Philip, Raymond and John Mark while his sisters are Doris, Jennifer and June.

"Jonathan will be remembered for his daring exploits in the racing tracks, in muddy and dusty tracks, during this time of Easter.

"We are distraught as family and we ask for your prayers and seek your understanding and indulgence to allow us mourn privately,” Baringo Senator Gideon Moi stated.

Ex-President Moi’s press secretary Mr Lee Njiru confirmed the untimely demise on Saturday morning and asked Kenyans to give the family some privacy in this time of grieving.

“I have been asked by the Moi family to tell Kenyans to respect their privacy at this mourning period of their beloved kin,” Mr Njiru pleaded.

The cause of his death is unknown at the time but the family has vowed to keep Kenyans updated with the burial arrangements.
