NAIROBI, Kenya- Gor Mahia FC head coach Steve Pollack is not getting ahead of himself after the 4-1 demolition of AFC Leopards SC, maintaining that there is still a long way to go in the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) campaign.

Gor returned to the top of the standings after a Gislain Yikpe brace was followed by a long-range Clifton Miheso effort before a late Lawrence Juma goal sealed all three points for the champions.

Leopards new signing Tresor Ndikumana got the only goal for the visiting team but Pollack, who replaced Hassan Oktay as coach of Gor Mahia, believes there is still a lot to be done if they are to retain the title.

"The win doesn't define the season because we still have 27 games left to play. We must choose to remain focused and plan ahead if we are to win the league title this season.

"That is the reason why I did not want to focus on our previous 1-0 loss to Mathare United FC," Pollack stated.

The victory leaves Gor sitting pretty at the summit with 18 points, one ahead of second place Kariobangi Sharks but the league leaders have two games in hand going into the international break.

Pollack admitted that eternal rivals Leopards were a better team in the first half but went on to say that the half-time team talk worked in their favour as they managed to see the game through with a sublime second half display.

"Take nothing away from Leopards, they were definitely better in the first half. They just did not capitalise on the chances they created and that was their undoing.

"The talk at half time worked and we came back different in the second half to ensure we bag all three points, very important points," he added.

The SPL returns on November 20 after the international break and Gor will be in action against second place Homeboyz in a tricky top of the table test.

Seventh-placed Leopards also have a tough test on the cards against Bandari FC.
