Kakamega Homeboyz opened up a five-point gap at the summit of the Kenya Premier League table after a hard-fought 3-2 victory over KCB on Sunday at the Kasarani Annex.

Yema Mwama was on target twice, in between an Estone Omengo effort to inspire the win to propel them to 31 points, six more than second place Nairobi City Stars.

City Stars moved into second place after a 1-0 win against Tusker FC courtesy of an 87th minute Oliver Maloba goal.

The defeat was the defending champions sixth of the campaign, increasing pressure on head coach Robert Matano as the brewers lie in 13th place.

Record league winners Gor Mahia made it two wins on the bounce as they battled to a 2-0 triumph against newcomers Talanta FC on Sunday.

Austin Odhiambo's brace inspired the win as Gor round off the top 3 with 25 points, still with a game in hand.

After three straight defeats, Wazito began life after coach Francis Kimanzi in fine fashion with a 2-1 win against Nzoia Sugar.

Their third win of the season saw them move away from the relegation zone into 15th place with 12 points.

Bandari failed to capitalize on the chance to move into the top three after they were held to a 1-1 draw by tail-enders Vihiga Bullets.

Johanna Mwita scored with seven minutes left on the clock to salvage the point for the dockers as Vihiga Bullets remain rooted to the bottom with six points after only one win all season.

In the other fixture of the day, newbies Bidco United and Sofapaka played out to a 1-1 draw.
