Liverpool kept their hopes of a quadruple alive after they beat Chelsea 6-5 in the penalty shootout to win the FA Cup at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.

Neither side was able to break the deadlock within the 90 minutes and even after extra-time it was goalless, prompting yet another FA Cup final penalty shootout.

Kostas Tsimikas converted the winning penalty to secure a domestic double for Jurgen Klopp's side, having already won the League Cup earlier in the season.

For the second time this season, Liverpool emerged victorious against Chelsea on penalties, having already beaten them 11-10 following another 0-0 draw in the League Cup final in February.

Cesar Azpilicueta and Mason Mount both missed for Chelsea in the shootout, with Edouard Mendy's save from Sadio Mane's penalty eventually counted for nothing.

"We are mentality monsters, but there were mentality monsters in blue as well," Klopp said. "It was one penalty. Chelsea played outstanding, but in the end, there must be one winner and that was us today.

"I couldn't be more proud of my boys, the shift they put in, how hard they fought, the early changes." Klopp stated after the game.

This was Liverpool's 8th FA Cup title but a first in 16 years, having not tasted glory since beating West Ham on penalties in 2006.

In two weeks, Liverpool will be hoping to collect another trophy by beating Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

Before then, Klopp has to hope Manchester City slips up in the final two rounds of the English Premier League and Liverpool takes advantage to regain that trophy.

Liverpool have won both domestic cups in the same season for the first time since 2000-01, with Klopp getting his hands on the famous old trophy for the first time.

For Chelsea, it was a painful third successive FA Cup final defeat after previous losses to Leicester and Arsenal.

"I have no regrets. I told the team I’m proud. We struggled in the first 15 minutes, we looked nervous and tense but then we were excellent," Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel said.
