Simba fire Brazilian tactician after Yanga thrashing

Tanzanian giants Simba have fired Brazilian coach Roberto Oliveira just two days after the side suffered a heavy 5-1 thrashing at the hands of perennial rivals Yanga in the Kariakoo Derby played on Sunday.

In an official release via its social media channels, Simba confirmed the Brazilian’s departure who was only appointed at the club back in January this year after parting ways with Ugandan giants Vipers whom he guided to their first-ever CAF Champions League Group Stage qualification the previous season.

Oliveira, who is popularly known as Robertinho, was relieved of his duties alongside the team’s physio Corneille Hategekimana.

“Simba has reached a mutual agreement to terminate the contract with first -team head coach Roberto Oliveira Goncalves Do Carmo (Robertinho). We have also reached an agreement to terminate the contract of team physio Corneille Hategekimana.

Simba’s leadership thanks these coaches for their contribution to our club and wishes them all the best in their new roles,” the statement signed by club CEO Imani Kajula read.

Moving forward, Kajula confirmed the team will be led by assistant coach Daniel Cadena in the interim as they source for a new head coach. Cadena will be assisted by youth coach Seleman Matola over the period.

“During the transition, our squad will be under coach Daniel Cadena with the help of Seleman Matola. Already the process of finding new coaches has begun and is expected to be completed soon,” the statement added.

The weekend thrashing left Simba in third place on 18 points after seven games, just three points behind table-topping Yanga who have played one extra match.
