Omalla ends 4-game goal drought against Muhoroni Youth as Gor close in on top spot

Fresh from netting his first goal for the national team Harambee Stars in the November international break, Benson Omalla ended his four-game goal drought in the league as he found the back of the net to help Gor Mahia to a 0-2 win over Muhoroni Youth on Sunday afternoon.

In the match staged at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homabay, the Kisumu Day alumnus struck early in the first half to give Gor the lead by the half time break before newly signed Christopher Ochieng secured the three points with a late strike in the 90+3rd minute.

The result saw Gor Mahia end their two-match winless streak following back-to-back draws as they cut down Posta Rangers’ lead at the top of the table back to one point as they stayed in second place on 24 points.

The goal also extended Omalla’s tally at the top of the scoring charts to eight goals in 12 games.

Elsewhere, high-flying Murang’a Seal saw their seven match unbeaten streak (4W D3) brought to an end after succumbing to a 1-2 defeat against KCB in the match played at the SportPesa Arena.

Francis Kahiro got the Bankers ahead with a 12th minute strike before Haniff Wesonga doubled the lead for the Bernard Mwalala coached side in the 48th minute.

Batts Awita halved the deficit with a minute of regulation time remaining but the effort proved to be a mere consolation as KCB held on to record the away win that saw them leapfrog Seal into third spot on the log on 22 points.

Kenya Police also grabbed a win as goals from David Okoth, David ‘Cheche’ Ochieng and South Sudan international Tito Okello saw them claim a 1-3 victory over Nzoia Sugar whose lone goal was scored by Joseph Oyugi.
