  • According to Moraa, who is popularly known as Kisii Express, the present was meant to psyche up Mbagari ahead of the upcoming Athletics Kenya (AK) African Games trials.
  • The national trials for the Africa Games were scheduled to take place from 5-6 March.
  • The Africa Games take place in Accra, Ghana from March 8 to 23.

800m world champion Mary Moraa has once again shown why she is one of the most generous Kenyan runners.

The 23-year-old gifted her colleague Esther Mbagari a pair of running sneakers when the duo met on Monday morning, March 4, 2024 at the Nyayo National Stadium.

According to Moraa, who is popularly known as Kisii Express, the present was meant to psyche up Mbagari ahead of the upcoming Athletics Kenya (AK) African Games trials.

“This girl Mbagari Sasha is destined for greatness. She is one of the finest female sprinters I have witnessed in Kenya. Wishing her best of luck at the African Games trials with some little gift for her sprightly legs. The world is yours girl, go and conquer,” she stated.

Moraa herself had to endure a lot of struggles before making it to the top of the competitive athletics field.

The one-time Diamond League winner recently revealed that she was raised in an orphanage after the demise of her parents.

“I never saw any photo of my mum. I have nothing to look at that would remind me of her, just the feeling. I remember I used to ask myself a lot of questions," she was quoted by Olympics.com.

Moraa added that she always thinks about her upbringing and family when preparing for or racing at big events.

Meanwhile, Mbagari, who is the same age as Moraa, is slowly making her way to the top of the sprinting world.

The Kenya Prisons Service (KPS) athlete has previously won the 100m and 200m national titles.

Mbagari is expected to secure a slot in the African Games trials which is scheduled to be held between Tuesday, March 5 and Wednesday, March 6 in Nairobi.

However, she will have to be at her best to beat the other female sprinters who will be seeking the chance to represent the Country in the games which will be held in Accra, Ghana later this month.

AK had announced a few days ago that only the winner in each category at the national trials will bag the ticket to compete at the eagerly anticipated games.
