SUMMARY
  • Leaders Gor Mahia FC are scheduled to play second-placed side Posta Rangers on Saturday.
  • Gor are the only side yet to taste defeat after the opening 16 games.
  • They currently hold a five-point advantage over Rangers.

After missing the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) action for two weeks, fans should expect thrilling showdowns when clubs return to action this weekend.

The topflight league resumes on Saturday, January 6, 2024 after a holiday break with a number of mouth-watering clashes.

Leaders Gor Mahia FC are scheduled to play second-placed side Posta Rangers in an anticipated encounter that will be held at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.

Gor Mahia narrowly edged past a stubborn Bandari FC side with a 1-0 victory on Friday, December 22 and will be seeking to bag maximum points when they meet their main title rivals.

On the other hand, Rangers, who thrashed Ulinzi Stars 2-0 in their last game will be aiming to inflict their first defeat of the season to Gor Mahia. The visitors have won nine games and drawn seven in their 16 league matches.

Should K’Ogalo triumph over Rangers, they will put themselves in a good place of retaining the coveted title.

The Jonathan McKinstry charges sit at the helm of FKFPL standings with 34 points, five ahead of Rangers with KCB FC, Kakamega Homeboyz and an improved Nairobi City Stars side (all with 27 points) completing the top five positions.

In other matches lined up for Saturday, Police FC are set to host Kakamega Homeboyz at the Sacco Stadium while FC Talanta and Nairobi City Stars will entertain each other at Kasarani Annex.

Bandari FC will play relegation-threatened Nzoia Sugar as Muhoroni Youth and Shabana FC battle it out at the Homa Bay-based Raila Odinga Stadium.

On Sunday, former champions Tusker FC will square it out with KCB FC as a struggling AFC Leopards side visit Ulinzi Stars.

The two fixtures are expected to be played at the Police Sacco Stadium and Nyayo National Stadium respectively.

Tusker captain Charles Momanyi has urged the Brewers’ faithful to turn up in large numbers and support them in their opening match of 2024.

Meanwhile, Murang’a Seal, who recently parted ways with head coach Gabriel “Kingi” Njoroge will play Kariobangi Sharks as they try to bounce back from their troubles.

All the matches with the exception of the Tusker FC vs KBC crunch tie are expected to kick off at 3 PM.
