Kenyan wonderkid Aldrine Kibet confesses love for Barcelona

Highly rated Kenyan forward Aldrine Kibet has divulged that his childhood dream is to feature for European giants FC Barcelona.
The 17-year-old, who is currently plying his trade in Spain at the Nastic Sports Academy, made clear his love for the Catalans in an interview on Citizen when asked which club is close to his heart.
“It is Barcelona. It has always been my dream since I was young. I look up to them. They played good football, the Guardiola football, Tiki-taka,” stated Kibet.

According to the youngster, he would one day like to play for the club that has won the prestigious UEFA Champions League title on five occasions.
“I aspire to play for Barcelona. So, my dream is not to go and watch Barcelona. I have to go play with them,” he commented.
Kibet, who is among a number of Kenyan youngsters at the Nastic Academy, further disclosed that he would not have landed the scholarship without the help of his supportive father.

“I got the chance to go for selection held at the Juja Preparatory in Thika. So, when I went, I was only told one thing by my father, that a child needs to play basic. Not to be Messi. Not to carry the ball but to be just basic. One time, pass, move.
So, I went and did as my father told me and I got that
opportunity to come here,” he explained.
Kibet broke into the limelight during the 2023 national school games that were held in Kakamega County.
He scored several goals including two in the final against Dagoretti High to help St. Anthony’s Boys High School, Kitale lift the national title.

The talented attacker was also one of the standout players at the recently held CECAFA Junior Championships. His goals helped Kenya to reach the final where they narrowly lost 2-1 to arch-rivals Uganda.
Kibet’s prowess in the school games and the regional tournament caught the attention of many football stakeholders across Kenya with most of them tipping him for success.
The 2023 CECEFA Junior Championships Golden Boot Award winner is expected to sign a professional contract with one of the European clubs when he turns 18.
