Kenya Morans book quartefinal berth in Mauritius

The Louis Kisia-led side will face South Africa in the Rugby Africa 7s Cup ongoing in Mauritius.

The second-string men’s national rugby 7s side, Kenya Morans, successfully booked their place in the quarterfinals of the ongoing 2024 Rugby Africa 7s tournament taking place in Mauritius after finishing behind Madagascar in Pool A after the completion of the group stage action on Saturday.

Morans were denied a chance of finishing top after Madagascar narrowly edged the Louis Kisia-led side 7-5 in the table-topping deciding match.

Both sides had come into the match with wins in their opening two matches and it Madagascar who manage to get the job done against the defending champions who struggled to get going.

In that game, the first half proved to be a defensive affair with both teams not letting up in a tight contest.

The first points came in the second half when Joel Inzuga deftly slipped through Madagascar’s defense to score the first try, though the conversion was missed to give Kenya a 5-0 lead.

Madagascar however struck back with a swift counter-attack, scoring a try and successfully converting it to take a 5-7 lead that they managed to hang onto till the final whistle to seal top spot.

The Morans’ pool journey began on a high note with a dominating 40-0 victory against hosts Mauritius, followed by an impressive 25-0 win over Nigeria.

Following the group stage action, Morans will be facing the team that finished top of Pool C at the quarterfinals which are scheduled to kick off at 0822 EAT on Sunday morning.
