SUMMARY
  • Gor Mahia top the table on 34 points.
  • Posta Rangers sit in second place on 29 points.
  • The match is scheduled to kick off at 1500EAT in Machakos.

Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia have a chance to open an 8-point lead at the top of the 23/24 Football Kenya Federation Premier League standings when they take on second placed Posta Rangers in a top of the table clash set for Machakos Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The 20-time Kenyan champions ended 2023 as the only unbeaten side in the 18-team league after the opening sixteen matches (W9 D7) and will be hoping to extend that streak when they take on Rangers in matchweek 17.

The Johnathan McKinstry coached side have managed four wins in their last five matches and will be out to widen that gap as they chase a record-extending 21st title.

On the other hand, Rangers, who finished last season in 12th spot, have been the surprise packages this season and will be out to curtail Gor Mahia’s momentum when they play hosts in the potential title-deciding clash.

Having made a brilliant start to the season, the mailmen lost steam in December, winning only one of their four fixtures (D1 L2) as K’Ogalo toppled them from top spot.

Both teams will be out to get positive starts in their first outings of the year after a two-week festive break and recent meetings shows there is little to separate the two sides as they have recorded two wins in their last five matches with the other game ending in a draw.

In other matches lined up for Saturday, Police FC are set to host Kakamega Homeboyz at the Police Sacco Stadium while FC Talanta and Nairobi City Stars will entertain each other at Ruaraka Grounds.

Bandari will host Nzoia Sugar at Mbaraki Grounds with Shabana taking on Muhoroni Youth at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homabay.
