CAF Increases AFCON Prize Money to over 1 Billion

Teams that make the quarterfinals will receive over 200 million.

SUMMARY

The Winner of the upcoming AFCON that will be held in Côte d'Ivoire will receive USD 7 000 000 (approx. Ksh 1.1 Billion).
The Runner-up will now get USD 4 000 000 (Ksh 630.7 million).
Each of semi-finalists and the quarter-finalists will also receive money.

The Confederation African Football (CAF) announced a 40% increase in the Prize Money for the Winner of the Africa Cup of Nations (“AFCON”) Côte d'Ivoire 2023.

The Winner of the upcoming AFCON that will be held in Côte d'Ivoire will receive USD 7 000 000 (approx. Ksh 1.1 Billion)

The Runner-up of the AFCON Côte d'Ivoire 2023 will now get USD 4 000 000 (Ksh 630.7 million).

Each of the two Semi-finalists will receive USD 2 500 000 (Ksh 394.1 million) and each of the four Quarter-finalists, USD 1 300 000 (Ksh. 204.9 million).

“CAF has made significant progress over the past two years in increasing the Prize Money of the AFCON and all its other major competitions. We have increased the Prize Money of the AFCON Winner to USD 7 000 000 which is a 40% increase from the previous AFCON Prize Money.

I am confident that a portion of the Prize Money will contribute to developing football and also benefit all the football stakeholders, as well as assist our Member Associations with their administrations,” CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe said.

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations starts on Saturday January 13 with hosts Ivory Coast taking on Guinea-Bissau in Abidjan with the final also taking place at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium on Sunday February 11.

24 teams will be jostling for the increased prize money with Senegal keen to defend the title they won for the very first time in 2021 when they beat Egypt.

Full Groups

Group A: Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau.

Group B: Egypt, Ghana, Cape Verde, Mozambique.

Group C: Senegal, Cameroon, Guinea, The Gambia.

Group D: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Mauritania, Angola.

Group E: Tunisia, Mali, South Africa, Namibia.

Group F: Morocco, DR Congo, Zambia, Tanzania.

The top two teams in each group and the four best-ranked third-placed teams will advance to the last 16.
