Beatrice Chepkoech reveals main target ahead of 2024 Paris Olympic Games

Chepkoech is one of the few world record holders who are yet to win the prestigious Olympic Games medal.

One-time Diamond League winner Beatrice Chepkoech Sitonik has stated that her main target for this season is an Olympic Games medal.
Chepkoech is one of the few world record holders who are yet to win the prestigious Olympic Games medal.
The runner, who was born in Bomet County in Kenya’s Rift Valley region, set the 3000m steeplechase world record at the 2018 Monaco Diamond League meeting.

She clocked 8:44.32 and in the process became the first ever woman to run the race in under 8:50.00. The previous world record of 8:52.78 was set by Kenyan export to Bahrain Ruth Chebet in 2016 at the Paris Diamond League.
Chepkoech later went on to win Kenya a gold medal at the 2019 World Athletics Championships which was held in Doha, Qatar.
She clinched the title in a championship record time of 8:57.84 ahead of United States’ runner Emma Coburn (9:02.35) and Gesa Felicitas Krause (9:03.30) of Germany.
Speaking to SportPesa News after her recent victory in the 5000m at the successful Athletics Kenya (AK) track and field meet held at the Nyayo National Stadium, Chepkoech stated that she will give her best to bring Kenya glory.

“I am really working hard for the Olympics. I do not have a medal in the Olympics, so that is my aim now” she explained.
The upcoming 2024 Olympic Games will be hosted by France
between Friday, July 26 and Sunday, August 11.
Chepkoech, who is likely to line up with in-form runners like Winfred Yavi, struggled a lot last season due to a hamstring injury.
When asked whether she is training for the summer games with Yavi on her mind, Chepkoech noted that she only wants to beat the best.

“I cannot train towards someone, but I am training to beat the best. I am not aiming for someone,” commented the 2019 Prefontaine Classic winner.
Yavi, who was born in Kenya but later changed her nationality to Bahrain, is the reigning 3000m steeplechase world champion and the favorite going into the Olympics.
Uganda’s Peruth Chemutai is the defending Olympic champion following her exploits in Tokyo.
