Xavier undecided over AFC return.
Ex-international reveals to Goal that management is yet to provide required basics for him to start work following withdrawal of Mumias as sponsors
Francis Xavier is split over re-joining AFC Leopards’ two days after Goal revealed that Ingwe was set to rehire the former Team Manager in the same capacity.
“Right now all focus is on the new sponsor. One official told me that by next week a new sponsor might come on board. However, before I travel I need to be assured on some issues. I have to work with harmony and to the best of my ability for best of the club.”
The former player was scheduled to start working on Thursday but it did not materialise as planned. “The management has not provided basics for me which are necessary, so I am waiting for that. Hopefully by Monday all will be sorted out.
“They have genuine interest in my services, but I feel they should also go a step ahead and convince me. I will not hesitate to rejoin the den for the sake of Ingwe.”
Despite Mumias Sugar suspending sponsorship for three months, the former player has told Goal that large turnout by fans especially in home matches can be used to cater for the players. “Sponsorship is important for any team. We cannot control some situations or stop them from happening. The management should move quickly to secure another sponsor as soon as possible.
“Fans should come in numbers and bail out the team. We have the potential of raising up to Sh5million in a single match through gate collections. Players need them now more than ever. I have strong faith that the club will pull through and have a successful season to the delight of the fans.”
